Community Connections Recreational Therapy Summer Program

The Community Connections Recreational Therapy Summer Program is a small-group therapeutic recreation program designed for youth ages 12–18 with disabilities. This program provides structured, supportive opportunities for participants to build social skills, increase confidence, and develop independence while engaging in meaningful activities in the community.

Led by Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists, sessions take place in a variety of community settings such as parks, recreational spaces, and other local venues. Participants can expect a balance of guided group activities, peer interaction, and hands on recreational experiences in real world environments.

Throughout the program, participants will:

  • Build and strengthen peer relationships

  • Practice social and communication skills

  • Increase confidence navigating community settings

  • Explore and try new recreational and leisure activities

  • Develop independence in group and community participation

Each session is designed to be engaging, active, and supportive, with individualized attention provided within a small-group setting. The program emphasizes learning through experience, helping participants grow skills they can carry into everyday life.
