Mandy McQueeney, CTRS
Profile:
I started my profession in 2000 working at Larue Carter State
Hospital with children and adults with severe Psychiatric
Disorders before deciding to change my career path by accepting a
position with Meaningful Day Services in 2002. This was a very
different experience for me from the institutional setting I was use
to, but it didn't take long for me to realize that I was meant to
work with individuals with developmental disabilities. I
particularly find it rewarding to work with individuals and their
families in their natural settings. As the first Recreational Therapy
provider, I had the unique opportunity to start and build the
program. I am currently the Director of Recreational Therapy, and
while I'm not working directly with my clients, I am providing
supports to other therapists and oversight to the program. I
currently reside in Greenwood with my husband, Kyle, son's
Jackson and Carter, and dogs Buster and Melly.

Areas of Expertise:
Most of my experience is working with individuals with
psychiatric disorders and those on the Autism Spectrum. I am
comfortable working with individuals that are non-verbal, have
limited mobility, or those that have challenges associated with
sensory issues. I typically use exercise, athletics, social games, and
community integration as therapy interventions, although I'm
willing to work with individuals to build on whatever interests
they have. Part of what I do is simply help my client's find new
interests and explore ways to adapt activities so that they can be
successful.
